ART SOCIAL VISITS ICEBOX PROJECT SPACE

This December we visited the Crane Arts Center located in the Fishtown area of Philadelphia for the Icebox Project Space exhibition. Around 4/5 artist exhibited their work. Creations from mix-media using sports equipment along with paintings and even film. The image to the right, an equist piece created by Clancy Philbrick is a piece from his “Repatriation Policy” In his artist statement, Philbrick explains his “work is interested in the fetishization of American sports and its role in the fundamental development of societal norms…” His exhibit is up for sale and you can also purchase prints.

Caroline Stoughton

A friend who champions in the art world and who also has been on Artsocialize TV also showcased at the Icebox Project Space, Caroline Stoughton. Showcasing her large-scale beautiful pieces of floral artistry. Stoughton surprises guest with small sized sculptured. The sculptures were well crafted, colorful and  are definitely each are conversation pieces. Stoughton’s artistry is up for sale at Cherry Street Pier and on her website.

As we continue to browse Icebox, there was another exhbit just as striking as the two others! Walking past what I thought was an office, ended up being a partity with a cardboard crafted talking robotic boss.

This boss was collecting resumes, discussing time rules and running that office. With the way AI is taking over – is that our future? I’d say YES! The installations give directions to an employee named “Julia” telling her to answer emails, delete inbox messages, and how to improve on performance. I was taken away but the accuracy of management – the programmer was spot on.

Lastly, I watched a series of mini-shorts called “After Worlds” written and directed by Taj Rauch. To watch the various worlds, the participant had to select an envelop, scan the “key bar” to the pedestal to watch a new world take flight. Each mini world will have you engulfed in the film, watching full of emotions – just taken you back. Watching “After Worlds” will have you on the edge of your seat, questioning your own childhood decisions.

Overall, the entire show was amazing. I can’t wait to return back to the Crane Arts to see other exhibits. Come along.
